Very nice Mike,

I had a watch on that but decided against bidding when the reminder went off.

Glad it's gone to a good home.

Default Great find !

This was advertised as :
Quote:
Brass Engine Turned Pill Box Badged British Legion 5cms Diameter C1949
The dating was based on an error reading the Reg.Design number .

It is actually a brass version of a "puffbox" which was sold in an E.P version which appears in a 1928 advert. I now have 60% of the items shown , will take some photos.

Thumbs up 1928 Pilgrimage - Update

A fellow collector of British Legion memorabilia recently got hold of a lot of 'Pilgrimage' items including newspaper clippings etc. He kindly sent me this unused "payment card" , it appears that members could put aside money each week to pay for their trip . He also send me a 'thumb drive' containing scans/photos of the items he got , will have a good look over the weekend and post anything of interest.

An unexpected gift arrived today , this 1936 British Legion (Scotland) Conference badge.

The kindness and generosity of forum members is fantastic and very appreciated.

Thumbs up Membership Cards

Latest addition to my Membership Card collection , I nice example from 1921.

Apart from being great historical items some also have the badge numbers on them which help me to verify when specific manufacturers/types of badges were produced/issued.

This shows that their are errors in the membership numbers list in Graham Wootton's 1956 book.

Thumbs up 1928 Pilgrimage

One down - on to go !

Spotted a British Legion Women's Section 1928 Pilgrimage badge in a small lot of 'mixed' pins/badges. Immediately contacted the seller and (politely) asked if they would split the lot and accept an offer for WS badge.

Offered £10.00 and badge is now on its way to me !

Note : I 'think' the ribbons were used to identify which group/area the women came from. As over 3000 women attended the pilgrimage they would have needed some method to show who was in which group.

Thumbs up New additions !

Received these two excellent badges as a gift (Thank You !).

Life Member badge - Gaunt London makers mark and numbered k834.
This indicates post WW2 , Gaunt used the lower case 'k' prefix (later from 1960 an upper case 'K' was used on 'For Merit' badges).

Scottish Women's Section badge - Birmingham Medal and Badge Company makers mark . Silver hallamark for 1992.
Post WW2 B.M & B.C lost the contract (to Gaunt) to manufactuer standard British Legion badges but continued to make special (gold and silver) ones plus some RBL(Scotland) items.

Both badges are great additions to my collection.

Thumbs up Paris 1939

An original photograph (not postcard) from a French press organisation.

A group badge , O/S , I'm still trying to find information about the various groups. For the Great Pilgrimage in 1928 "group O" was for Scotland and "group S" was East Anglia , so this could have been a 'combined' group or they may have used completely different prefixes.

I'm still looking for the sovenir program that was produced (see photo 4) , if anyone spots it please let me know. Thanks !
Spotted a program and some associated paperwork , invites and menus , stuck in an "offer" and after an agonising wait (8 hours) my offer was accepted !

Will post more details when the lot arrives next week !

The 1939 visit programme arrived but it is the other documents that are interesting !

Official Invitation.

Itinerary booklet - This answered the question about the O/S badge , it was for the Overseas Section.

Thumbs up Bookmatch Case

Picked up this nice case , made by Birmingham Medal Co.

I'm trying to get hold off all the items that appeared on a March 1928 advert for British Legion badges/souvenirs.

Mike, you continue to find and get some great pins and badges. I especially like he Women's Pilgrimage pin of course, and was happy getting to see it.

Thumbs up British Legion Journals

Just got these two 1944 British Legion Journals .

They are about half the size of the pre/post war journals , a case of wartime austerity ?
