Default Very small motto

I have recently bought this very small motto, you can see the size compared to a pound coin, very small with a slider and has the words "LONDON LUDLOW" on the reverse.

It does not follow the pattern of any of my collar badges or other mottoes.

Any help with this little badge is welcome.

Thanks for looking Rob

Very nice indeed Rob. No ideas I’m afraid but if you ever decided to part with it please let me know.

All I can say is being Ludlow rather than Ludski it will date after 1933, but I’m sure you already knew that.

I recently added a nice large 1950s font Gaunt London badge to my collection which I was very pleased about.

Question Small motto

Luke, definitely 17th/21st as you say Ludlow rather than Ludski, I did wonder as to why it was so small, but its a different pattern skull to anything I have seen before including collar badges.

Its a modified Gaunt collar. "If" it was used.... it suggests side cap. I would like to see some braise colour.... but I couldn't see any?

Default Small motto

Griff, many thanks for your reply, the motto is of course collar badge size and does have "LONDON LUDLOW" on the reverse. I was under the impression that Ludlow only made badges for officers and senior NCO's but I may be wrong of course so could this have been a trial pattern that was never sanctioned to be worn by the aforementioned?

As for braze, even looking at the badge with a magnifying glass it does not show up very well, I will perhaps try again to catch this feature and post fresh photos.

Regards Rob

Hi Rob

Updated :- I see the makers mark now.... that's a turn up for the books! I would say a side cap motto.

Here is the white metal collar example, without a makers mark:-

Griff, it was the Ludlow maker mark that I homed in on when it came up for sale, so you think it's for a side cap, very well made IMO as they have been very economical with the braze.

Thank you for your thoughts on it.

Regards Rob

Default Small motto

Griff, I am more than happy with this little badge, my problem is I have had "Bad Request" come up on ebay and cannot see a way around it to leave feedback, I cannot sign in which is a pain.

Any help will be more than welcome.

Rob
