Cataloguing badges
I would like information on what software other members use to catalogue their badges? I’ve used word, excel and access and find them all a bit clunky. I would of thought by now there must be new software to do this, with easy attachment of photos, words and links.
Thanks in advance Ian |

Recollector
Hi Ian
I use Recollector. It is made for collectors and developed by a collector, see the website below for more details. I used excel for a long time, cataloguing my patches/badges and was looking for an inexpensive way to use a better, professional database that was easy to use and not expensive. I had searched for at least 10 years until I came across Recollector. You can literally import your excel spread sheet into recollector, once you have set up the paremiters for the fields. Images you have to import seperately into each item. You can add links to items from within the database as well as external links ie pdf, images, website etc.. I have a large patch, badge collection(6600+) that I use to navigate my collection as most are in binders, drawers or boxes. You can download a test of 50 items (I think?) and test it out. The price $US49 for what it does far outweighs other expensive cataloguing systems. Although I found it easy to follow in doing the set up for my collection, it does pay to have an understanding of database, excel and general computer knowledge. I did make mistakes, but received support from recollector , I also ended up adding several enhancements to recollector. https://www.collectingcatalog.com/ Phill |

Yet again I got a wretched 403 [still want an explanation] - I wanted to insert a part of my KLR catalogue. (not a copied catalogue, it is my creation.)
No excels or other nonsense. I just create a WORD in a computer document - etc 8th Irish Battalion 1908-1939 - within larger documents IF I GET ANOTHER 403 - I'LL RESIGN........ Last edited by KLR; 30-10-22 at 05:25 PM. |

Sorry, but no webmaster or technician can work on this. At least you should tell which URL you are trying to reach when you get that error (or any other HTTP error).

I have encountered problems with error messages stopping me access some websites. Turned out be I had Mcaffee VPN turned on for all sites and sites such as Sainsburys and Tesco did not like it. Regards, Paul.

I see that you can't enter what you paid for it, which is a good thing as my wife would probably kill me if she ever found out.

Hi Luc
Yep you can but I did not include in the images. I have Purchase price, catalogue value and Sell price , have about 32 Fields , each with menu. Besides if she saw a resell figure she would love you even longer time. The problem I have is, I started off collecting cloth patches and have since included metal badges, uniforms etc...I can Kinda work around my fields without adding more. Another issue which I had was to get my head around British terminology in drop down menu's-think of the reverse if you wanted collect American patches ie Formation sign/Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, Cloth shoulder Titles/Scrolls(not tabs ie Airborne), silk thread/Rayon thread etc.... Also the differant names for new insignia type era Velcro backed,Velcro applied the list goes on.... Like in any business you have to update, ammend, add to your files, images. As you can see I will still need to go back and refine the cell with better descriptions. cheers Phill |

What I know about computers and software is not worth knowing so I may be making a right twonk of myself here, but it could be that you need to use a more up-to-date browser, as (I believe) some websites etc., aren’t supported by older versions of some browsers. Perhaps a PC-savvy member who knows what they’re talking about might be able to intervene here quickly [squirm]. JT |
