Default Army War Service Badge Class B

Hi Guys, I found a WW1 Army War Service Badge Class B in a pile of stuff with the number 483983 on the back. I have many Canadian issued examples in my collection, they have the prefix "C" in front of the number. Almost all of the Canadian examples can not be traced to the recipiant but I've heard British examples can be traced. Where would I find the role for British issued examples? The bafge in question is the round silver badge, the front says "FOR KING AND EMPIRE * SERVICES RENDERED*

Thanks,

Greg

Greg,
This was the Silver War Badge and the rolls are on Ancestry UK.
Silver War Badge 483983 was issued to 32080 Private Robert Bruce who was discharged from 3rd Bn Scottish Rifles (Cameronians) on 7 August 1919 under King's Regs para 392 XXV A, due to sickness. He had enlisted on 1 February 1917 and did not serve overseas. I can't find any other records of him.

Clive, thanks for looking this number up, I really appreciate it. It;s my only British badge so it's nice to put a name to it.

Cheers,

Greg

Some years back I traded for a "C" prefix badge (C 732, I think). Just so happens it falls within the very few number of Canadian badges that can be identified.

From memory, the owner was definitely "overage" and discharged for that reason.

His medal index card, which confirms the non entitlement of any service medals. and confirms the S.W.B. entitlement.

I wonder if he emigrated to Canada after the war.

You prompted me to look up C 732. This is: Alfred Leeson CHAPMAN

Any Canadian member (or others!) might like to spend a few minutes looking at his file.

Most impressed by the complete nature of the Canadian files!

Hi Dumdum, C732 is a pretty low number, what CEF battalion was he a member of?

Hi Gref

Thanks for your interest. "C 732" was his Silver War Badge number.

I'd have to check National Archives of Canada again, but I think he was employed as a batman (not Adam West style...) to some officer or other.

Your files are SO complete, it's amazing!

Hi Gref

Just checked! He was born in 1866....

Although he was "fit" they decided he was "only fit to act as a steward". Service number is 48817.

His profession is given as "steward", so that was handy.....

Looks like he was attached to 1 C V H - Canadian Veterinary Hospital?
