Anyway to add to the thread I had a group of items about 10 years ago to an early Para which included one of these brass examples. I’m unable to show any images here but whether it was an unfinished badge or intentionally made in brass only, they did certainly exist

Thanks
Jack

I have a brass badge that shows no evidence of ever being plated. This has a slider though and not lugs. Does that date it with any degree of accuracy?

Hello
Just to let you all know, I ended up purchasing the badge and it arrived yesterday. Having looked under magnification its shows no sign of ever being plated. I am very pleased with it as compliments the rest of my para badges.

Thanks for all the comments.

Have you cleaned it? Soft brush, hot water and washing up liquid might do the trick.

What a load of shit and whoever else has commented on this! Exactly why I dislike this forum.

It’s a different badge!

I bought another and Paul bought the previous one! The price never increased and infact it decreased from £200 to the £150 Paul bought it for

Get your facts correct before posting!!

Why would one clean off 75 years of age and patina?!

Because maybe it is just a white-metal badge underneath all that 75 years of age and patina?

It’s definitely not, it’s an all brass issue cap badge
Paul and I have examined it and it is

But I guess those that haven’t examined it have a better idea?!

Sorry only just seen this - yes they were all very nice thanks Jack . Did you get my email about the Paddington Rifles badge on eBay?

Rizzo - I’m not a fan of that badge I’m afraid. The inner feathers are very square like the fakes and very unlike early badges with rounded feathers. I’m convinced there is a genuine WM slidered KC badge as I have one I’m happy with but it is from a different die to yours. As has been discussed in other threads early WW2 badges were brass and then nickel plated (these were lugged). That badge certainly isn’t early WW2 due to square feathers and presence a slider IMO:

Rather than cleaning it to deal with the few spots of active verdigris I’d dip a cotton wool bud in WD40 and apply to the affected areas, this will neutralise the corrosion to stop pitting and send it a dark colour which will be sympathetic to the nice patina of the badge.

Cheers,
Luke

I don’t think the badge is brass at all.
The corrosion which is almost rust like would indicate a white metal base which has lost its protective nickel plating.
