I understand that the JTC was in existence from early 1940 until 1948.

Steve,

You do wonder that if the JTC lasted for 7 or 8 years why there are not more JTC cloth titles and metal cap badges about ?

One of life`s great mysteries.

Peter

I agree with Peter, they are hard to find items.

Some pics.

Actually only a minority of schools ever produced a JTC variant cap badge.

Some schools retained the OTC badges into the 1940s. In Canford Schools case they retained the OTC named badges into the 1950s and had them chrome plated.

Secondly and more prevalent was that the change over to OTCs saw the dropping of many school designs in favour of Regular badges. This actually started long before 1940 and the JTC. For example all of the Worcestershire schools had dropped their school badges and were wearing the Worcestershire Regts badge by the 1930s.

I have identified 12 schools who wore a badge with JTC on the badge. There are a few more who simply removed the OTC and had a gap.

- St Dunstan's had a blank scroll instead of the OTC
- Bridlington School simply cut the OTC scrolls off their badges.
- Lancaster RGS had a badge with a void where the OTC had been.
- Reading School has version with just the school name without the OTC or CCF.

Sometimes these were latterly changed to include CCF: Both Reading and St Dunstan's have a CCF version.

It's all in here: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...p?albumid=1602

http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/se...ms_per_page=50

IWM has 17 cloth s/ts for JTCs and there will be more.

Hallamshire and Foresters are listed as JTCs but I suspect were not just for cadets as there is no JTC on the badge itself.

in his Identification Pamphlet No 2 the late Major John Waring, founder of the Military Heraldry Society listed 103 JTC cloth titles in a variety of shapes, both slip-on and sew-on.

The Major's Pamphlets are only available to members of the Society. If you'd like to join and buy a copy for £15 plus £3 UK postage - the pamphlet also covers British Indian Army, Polish Corps, First World War Cloth, Home Guard, Commandos, RAF, ROC, ATC, Civil Defence and Welfare Services - go to
http://militaryheraldrysociety.com/ and fill in an application form.

PM me if you'd like further details

Those JTCs with bespoke cap badges were:

Ampleforth College
Bristol Grammar School
Derby School
Eastbourne College
Exeter School
Framlingham College
Maidstone School
Oratory School, Reading
Repton School
Rossall School
Sedbergh School
Wellingborough School

Anyone know of any others?
