58th sweetheart. any ideas?
Hello All, could anyone help me out with this brooch? It would seem to be more suited to the 12th (Suffolks) than the 58th?
Thanks, Bill. |

Your badge is definitely 58th Foot a predecessor of the Northamptonshire Regiment. Their collar badge is illustrated as Fig 1306 in Churchills book with the 3 tower castle over a scroll "Montis Insignia Calpe" It was worn by the 2nd Btn after they amalgamated with the 48th Foot to form The Northamptonshire Regiment. This badge continued being worn as a collar until 1916.
I collect Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire bades so if ever you decide to sell or exchange it let me know. James |

I've just realised my post wasn't quite clear. Your sweetheart badge is not a collar badge but the design is clearly based on the 58th collar badge.

Hello James, thanks for the reply. Although the C clasp and the hinge are present, sadly the pin is gone, i can post a photo if you wish?
Otherwise this is a nice badge, the key is a seperate piece, i would think it is quite old but cannot date it. If it would be suitable for your collection, its yours. Regards, Bill. |
