Raf buttons what are this flat type???
What type of clothing and rank would the RAF buttons be used on please. I thought the buttons were normally brass. Got them in a tin from a charity shop. Theres some nice groups in there.

I could be wrong, and I am sure I'll be corrected if I am, but could the VR in the centre stand for Volunteer Reserve? I know in Canada you often see the VR metal sholder titles.....

Flat type RAF buttons
These are blazer buttons - i.e. private purchase for wear on a civilian jacket such as a blazer, large at the front and smaller ones for the cuff. There are buttons like this being manufactured currently. The ones in your photo appear to be VR (Volunteer Reserve) as already suggested by Jamie, with the 'kings crown'.
Hope this helps |
