Hoping to Identify the regiment
Hi,
I received this photo taken in my home town during. 1944 or 1945 with British or Canadian soldiers on it I can see they are wearing the Tam 'O' Shanter so a regiment with Scottish roots. I tried to zoom in as much as possible, the quality is not great unfortunately Any ideas? |

These soldiers are British, not Canadian as some of them are wearing the Austerity version of battle dress with visible front buttons which the Canadians did not wear.
There is some evidence of arm titles on the right hand men which would suggest supporting troops - possibly Gunners - as Scottish infantry regiments did not wear such titles. Many supporting troops attached to 15th and 51st Divisions were instructed to wear the Tam O'Shanter to identify them more closely with the Divisions and that may be the case here. Hope that helps, Jon |

Hi Jon,
Thank you for the notice information. Because of the quality of the photo I think this is the best we can come to Identifying the unit. With the given information I will try to narrow down the search. |

Hi Stef
Instead of Zooming the photo do a Hi Res scan at about 600 dots per inch or higher and then see if that gives a better resolution and then crop to see how you go. Regards Phil |
