I'm after as steer in the right direction here, I did not know if to start this thread (ask the question) here or under the signals section.

I have been doing a bit of ancestor tracing and have found that my Grand Father who was a telecommunications specialist/engineer in Leeds during the war and therefore exempt from being called up, did in fact land in Normandy shortly after initial invasion as a civilian in uniform (I'm assuming with the Royal Signals) with the job of trying to get the French phone network up and running for the benefit fo the Allies.

Now the million dollar question, does anyone know what insignia he might have worn? On what I'm assuming would be standard army BD and head dress.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Contact this site and they may come up with the uniform etc worn during WW2 by the GPO. Properly battle dress with GPO badges??
