WW2 RAC/Cav WO
I would like to know what type of badge of rank a WO1 of the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards would wear on 1940 pattern battledress
Also what kind of hat he would wear (standard Khaki peaked hat? ) |

I would expect the Royal Arms like this example in embroidery possibly with a coloured backing worn on both lower arms. Or more likely (but against regulations for badges on battle dress) the Royal Arms in gilding metal and again with a possible coloured backing.
If a backing was worn it may have been black matching the regimental arm badge backing and commemorating the 7th Dragoon’s as ‘The Black Horse”. Tim

Not 4th/7th but a cavalry RSM - in this case 4th Hussars - in battle dress with RAC arm of service strip confirming wartime date.
His rank badge is cloth, his regimental arm badge metal. He has metal collar badges and shoulder titles and wears a peaked, officer's pattern SD cap. Jon |
