Hi Tony

5DG buttons - date c.1929 until they were mostly phased out in favour of anodised buttons, probably 1950's/1960's.

From memory I don't think the mounted button (with silver castle) is recorded by Ripley but I also have one in my collection.

The large "silver" button is Mess Waiters. I haven't seen that one before. It's interesting as it has to be post amalgamation (having the castle) so I would guess it dates c. 1930's or even later. The era of liveried mess servants more or less ended in most regts with WW1 but your button proves some regts continued with them, probably until WW2 or even beyond.

David

Hello Tony

That 5th dragoon Guards silver Mess Waiter's button is a real cracker, not one I have seen anywhere before! Any chance of a close up photo please?

Regards
Roger

Excellent Tony, thank you very much for posting the photo.

Yet another Mess Waiters' button to look out for!
