Default Cenotaphs in Montreal

If you happen to be in Montreal, and are out and about on Remembrance Day, would you please check the cenotaph to see if the name Lt. Gordon Shackell is engraved upon it. I was speaking with his sister this evening and she didn't know if her brother's name was on a Memorial.

This is the Virtual Memorial for him.

I am going to get a photograph from her and post it for her on the Virtual Memorial. Remarkably, he died of peritonitis, she told me, as a result of a training accident.

Thanks ever so much.

Phil, I am home for Remembrance Day, I live in Ottawa and have the honour of laying the wreath again this year for the Irish Regiment of Canada Veterans Association.

I work at 202WD CFB Montreal, and stay in town during the week. I if you are not in a hurry, I will get around to checking the memorial.

Hello Phil, I was over near the Montreal Cenotaph this evening. I stopped and checked it and there are no names on this cenotaph. A first I was somewhat suprised, but them realized that there would be far too many names to fit on the cenotaph.

I wounder if there would be any other memorial in Montreal where his name may be commemorated on.

Regards,
Cliff

Thanks for the effort, Cliff.

I don't know Montreal at all, having been there last when Expo was on. I will see if my lady can tell me where they went to Church. Perhaps there is a memorial there. Other than that, don't know what to think.

His parents were from Rosemount. Is there a cenotaph in that part of the city?

cheers,
phil

Him Phil, no cenotaph in Rosemont (french spelling) the only cenotaph is the one Clifford checked and where every 11 November there's a ceremony to the war dead (WW1,WW2,Korea).
Another option to be checked out is, did he lived in what was the a seperate city like Westmount,Outremont,Ville St-Laurent and so on. Post ww1 these cities had memorials erected to the fallen soldiers.

Hello Jo

That is useful information to know. According to the Virtual Memorial and my lady, family home was in Rosemont, and he and his wife lived in the city of Montreal proper.

It is quite possible that he is only commemorated on his headstone in Mount Royal Cemetery.

Interesting puzzle, this.

thanks for your input.
