Default 2nd. Lt. DAD Fraser. Gordon Highlanders.

Good evening.

I believe this officer was commissioned into the Regular Bns. of the Regiment on 22 October 1916. He does not appear to be among those Officers of the Regiment killed in The Great War. Nor does he appear in The Commonwealth War Graves Commission`s listings. I believe he may therefore have survived until the end of the War.

Could any Member of the Forum assist me with any information upon either his wartime, or his subsequent career. I should be much obliged for any firm information.

Please note , I may have slightly mis-spelt the surname.

Enjoy.

S.T.,
There is a Captain D.A.D. Fraser in the Gordons in the Army list for November 1932 ( copy attached ) The letter "t" after his name denotes an officer ( of the Regular Forces or Militia ) serving with the T.A.

In the Army List of October 1940 his is listed as a Major.

Not surprisingly, not listed in the Army List for April 1950.

Looks like 1st Btn Gordons for at least his WW1 service - Address given as "1st Gordons, c/o GPO, London" on his MIC, and the OC 1st Btn submitted the medal roll

Good evening.

Thank you again. That starts to fill in the picture considerably. More than I could ever have hoped. Wonderful!

One is compelled to make two observations. First, it just goes to show what a small world we live in. By chance this officer lived a few miles from me before he died. My family left Essex only two months before he died. And, both of my parents went to school just down the road from where Fraser is commemorated.

Second, it makes one wonder why his hallmarked and inscribed glengarry badge was incorporated in Lot 524 of Dix Noonan & Webb`s Sale of 23 September 2011. And, of course, one is profoundly obliged to the gentleman who Catalogued the Lot but failed to notice that small but important inscription on the reverse of the badge!

Can any other member provide more detail of this Officer`s life between the Wars or during the years before his death. After all, he was not an old man when he died.

Thank you again to those Members who have filled in so many gaps so far.

Enjoy.
