Default Button to identify

Hi Button experts,
I'm sure this button has been discussed on the forum but cannot find reference to it.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks, Tinto

Does it have a plain or a lined background?

Hi,
Button is not mine but it appears to have a plain background.

Possibly, I know of plain background buttons without rim and lined background buttons with rim.
These are documented in 'Dress worn at His Majesty's Court', by Herbert A.P. Trendell, published 1912.

This one seems to have a plain field and a rim. We may need a better picture

Hi Btns and GTB,
Thanks for your comments. Sorry, picture is the best I can do.
If any help, mark on back is "PITT & CO, 31 MADDOX ST. LONDON W."
Cheers, Tinto

I have one with a lined background, with the Harman & Co Calcutta back mark, perhaps Consular Service could be right?

Yes, if you mean the rim around the design on the front?

I replied from my mobile phone and did not get to see the image.

Your button is consular service and has very fine lining.
I guess Tinto's button has lining as well. At the rim, from 1 to 2 o'clock faint lines seem visible.
