Default WW1 general staff dress caps?

Hi,
I recently acquired these two caps, both have GV buttons and a king's crown badge. Can anybody help with the period and what rank would wear them..

Dark blue cap is made by CJ Johns & Pegg, 2 Clifford Street, Bond Street, London, W1.

Khaki cap is made by Moss Bros & Co Ltd, 20-21 King Street, Covent Garden.

cheers,
Rick

First one has George the Fifth buttons so worn sometime during his reign. The gold braid oak leaves are for Colonel (I think), Lt. Col and Majors having just Gold braid.

The second is typical WW2 construction worn by any officer on the staff below Generals rank.

Hi Rick,

The first cap dates from post 1917 when numbers were added to London district letters. The style of chin strap which is narrow with pointed tabs would in my opinion dates the cap to late Great War into the 1920s. Colonel/Brigadier General Staff.

The Khaki Cap dates from the 1930s-early 1950s. Moss Bros a popular military outfitter during that period.

both very nice caps

Mark

See my earlier post .

The rank of Brigadier General was changed to that of Brigadier in 1921 and NOT 1928.
