I can see the spray cans at the ready!! Luckily...... Gaunt only did one specific type....... so just grabbing a Gaunt AA motto and giving it a spray black will not fool the experienced.

You might only get £150

Congratulations to the winning bidder; not too many of these 17/21L badges out there in blackened AA.

I bid £48 on this one and then staggered off to bed, secure in the certain knowledge that surely no-one wd bid more for such a badge. Ha ha ha!

Woke up this morning to be shocked by this latest demonstration of the rarity and rocketing value of certain AA badges.

Awra best to all

William

Not as amazed as I was to see a WW2 officer's SD badge to the Staffordshire Yeomanry sell on our favourite online site for £189.

This year I will have been a badge collector for 40 years. At this rate there's going to be little point in carrying on as nothing is going to be faintly affordable.

What gets me is that they are not rare (the black motto)..... I saw five for sale last year.... all going for varying prices, but none of them achieved that kind of price.

The only thing that I get out of daft prices like this is that it helps me to justify to myself purchases for my own collection when I feel I have probably paid more than I feel I should have done.

Peter

I fear that a price paid like that just alerts the dealers...... and suddenly it becomes unaffordable. Again.... this is not a rare motto.

I agree Griff, you wouldnt believe the amount of people that say well it fetched so much at auction ,trying to justify the price.

Here Griff, what about that stack of mottoes you've got? You could be looking at a substantial pension fund investment there now if they keep on fetching prices like that!

My pile of bones.... gleam a little bit brighter today I am getting to the point where its becoming harder to find something I don't have (apart from the ££££££s Officers) There are some very rare ORs Mottoes though.... and just as worthy of a good price.

You could start your own ossuary and treat it like a bank vault.
