Default 9th Battalion AIF Somme 1916

Hello all,*

I have an old Australian*red flag with some graffiti on it. The graffiti says:

A Company
9th Battalion

Somme 1916

Then some names which I believe are "Albert" "Harold" and others unreadable.*

Can anyone suggest where I could find a company photo or nominal role for A Company 9th Battalion in 1916? Hoping to dip into the knowledge base here.

A very nice flag!

The ADFA AIF Database is a good place to start to see who was in the battalion.

Extremely rare find and I would look at getting it under glass in a 2 sided frame so it does not degrade further as a priority.

I think the names are of towns or villages in the battlefield area. Albert for certain, possibly Rancourt, Hardecourt and maybe Pozieres. Just guessing of course.

I just had a closer look - I think your probably right and that they are names of places the battalion fought.
