17th/21st Lancers cap badge
I think this is one of the "Winking eye" variety, a fake . . !

I would have thought, just from the photographs you show, certainly not genuine and regarding a date, a glance at the reverse suggests of very recent manufacture.

Hey Deadeye
Whilst you may be able to shoot straight your photos need some improvement ! How about trying again and get some more light and better focus to show the detail so that we can assist with your Motto. Regards Phil. |

G'day Deadeye
That's much better. First the left eye has a "wink" ie, it is not as deep or as defined as the right eye, this suggests that the die has been repaired at some time and has the "funny look". The two eyes should be symmetrical, that is look the same. Second there is a large fault line on the front of the skull that extends from eye to eye. Again this is a sign of a damaged die and the Regiment would never have accepted or used a faulty strike Motto. And for your benefit the Regiment always refers to this as a Motto, the word badge is never used by the regiment to describe its cap insignia. The Motto has been in use since 1759 and is currently used by the Royal Lancers. Regards Phil. |
