RAF in Maroon Beret
I saw an RAF chap the other day wearing RAF No.1 Dress, Wings and PTI badge on it with a Maroon Beret. He's not a PJI.
Any thoughts on why? Attached to 16 Bde? |

The RAF Regt in HQ 16 Bde used to wear maroon berets.

The RAF Regt (usually II Sqn) have a permanent exchange agreement with the Para Bde and he would be at least a SNCO rank.

Could be a PTI attached to brigade Para Sqn or attached to 16AAB.
When I was at Honington (2002 - 2012) we parented BPS at Wattisham and the TACP Regt lads at Colchester, can't be shure what the BPS PTIs wore but Regt definately wore maroon berets. Hope this helps, Bill

Whenever I've seen SFSG, they've always worn their respective beret, unless done a specialist cse e.g. SFCC, P-Coy, AACC etc...
He was a Cpl, so still JNCO. I know the RAF Regt had TACP's within 16 Bde, and wore the HQ DZ Flash and wings if earnt but I was unsure on the headdress, however, saying that I did see some RAF medical personnel from 16 Med Regt who wore Maroon. Question answered, thanks! |
