It is both.
Collar badge used briefly as an FSC badge in the late 1890s before the cap badge design. |

It is a collar badge but like many other regiments the collar badge was worn on the FSC in the Victorian era. These are occasionally found on sliders and such examples were specifically intended for wear on the former.

Thanks both, as it has no slider will put on my early collar badge card.

If not a slidered badge perhaps this with lugs behind the flames and it's original bright finish.

Fantastic picture JT thanks. Is there a date on the pic?
If I recall Churchill correctly the KC collar was strangely not sealed until 1914(?) which is presumably why no KC collars are found with the slider. At a guess I’d say early WW1 before the KC collar came into circulation and presumably they were out of cap badges at the time. |

No, no date on the photo unfortunately. I think Magpie, and Wilf, both have slidered examples of this badge. For size comparison: 595 & 596.jpg |

Yes it's a very nice picture so thanks for showing it, apart from the tailors sample box I have both the bright gold coloured and bronzed/brown colour versions of the small badge on sliders.

War Office archives provide whether badges have loops or vertical shanks.
