Default Grenadier Guards Cloth title

Hi friends

I have looked on the forum amd this could be a pre WWII (1920's-30's) title.

This is embroidered on wool and the letters are wider/thicker.

If this is pre WWII , could this have been reissued during WWII?

regards

Phill

I picked up another to make a near pair. I still think these are great war issue, rather than WWII, I wonder if a sealed pattern exists?

I agree with you Jerry, WW1 period. I have a couple of pairs somewhere.

I'll try and dig them out, just had a new carpet laid downstairs. So everything has had to be moved, nightmare.

The first cloth titles of that white thread on scarlet wool type for the Foot Guards was squared off on the corners and in the same colours for Grenadier, Coldstream and Scots Guards (it wasn’t until post WW1 that the Scots emulated the Irish and Welsh Guards to adopt a special colouration of their own). The titles were introduced circa 1902 and were unchanged in 1914. By the wars end the rounded corners type seem to have appeared (seen in a few photographs), but the two types continued side by side until stocks of the squared off type had expired. From that point the older, rounded type became the standard. All the above is based on photographic evidence and apart from the introduction I’ve not been able to find any list of changes to give clear and definitive dates. We added the Guards to our illustrative series here: http://www.uniformology.com/S-TITLES-07.html
