I would have thought that any sort of discussion about badges, of any kind, for whatever reason, was what this forum is all about, am I somehow mistaken?

If the Firmin mark is genuine and I can't see why it is not, then I suspect that they are post WW2 as Firmin rarely used their mark before WW2 on ORs' badges. How this ties in with the white metal version I am not sure.

The acorns, bobble hats, teats or bulging condoms to the top of the Marsh badge towers are the most obvious thing I see when looking. They seem to be the only version like this. As long as we stay clear of near to explode condom towers I think we will be clear of Mr Marsh. Another thing looking at my badge is it clearly has 4 courses of bricks to the centre tower over the shield-looking at the ebay selection of Marsh types today only 3 courses look obvious. Can anyone confirm that? Regards, Paul.

I have three examples of the Cambridgeshire Regiment cap badge in my collection. All three, including the version with the missing 'E', have only two courses of stonework above the shield.

There are limits.

The first badge sans braze holes is a Marsh catalogue fake. The second in the opening post is genuine but not by Firmin. As Magpie says someone has cocked it up.

Those Firmin badges are all correct and genuine.

The Marsh fakes in some instances doubtless drew inspiration from extant genuine badges, the flat top to the shield for example.

Nevertheless a great many differences exist between the Marsh copy and these genuine flat top shield badges. So genuine badges having one feature Marsh got right (for some) does not make them all fake or suspect.

Some repro badges do have rectangular braze holes albeit they are not particularly common save for instance the Essex and Suffolk Cyclists and Loyal Suffolk Hussars, the latter I recall advising you about in another thread.
