Default HM CONVOY tally

came across this cap tally, silk screened...
looing for some information on it, please and thank you

Manufactured during WW2 and available only from commercial outlets such as Naval tailors, so not official issue

A blind eye was turned to the wearing of these tallies to some extent in the Royal Navy, unlike the Royal Canadian Navy who took a more stringent view of things (Naval order 2061 of the 16th of May 1942 ordering that such ribbons where not to ne worn, only H.M.C.S.).

Hi, I have a photo of my dad (MDX/3056) wearing one whilst posted at HMS Safeguard. He was in the DEMS. He said whilst Safeguard was officially a recovery and recouperation base for sailors with sunk ships it was much more but have little else.
