Suffolk Regiment.
Hi All,
I would really like to hear the thoughts on these three, might one of them be the real McCoy ? Last edited by thursdaychris; 25-11-20 at 04:07 PM. |

Officers collar and 2 fakes I am afraid.
The suttle cambridge is a fake mark on a modern slider on a unvoided brass badge that was never made unvoided in all brass. The pagri badge is an ebay photo of a common repro, There is a genuine one in my FSH photo album. |

Officers collar, does look like a nice one, is it really worth £20 of my money ?

I asked because I've just been offered this one for £30.60, it looks much the same to me.

Over priced. Maybe for a matching pair.

No, it's just the one, I'm afraid, OSD bronze cap badges, all have blades, I'm thinking, any badge with lugs is therefore a collar ? They do all seem to be described as cap badges on eBay

Always buy OSD badges that have blades to be 100% sure that its a cap badge as several regiments wore identical collar badges but on loops.

Suffolk badges
Chris,
I agree with all the previous posts, the selling of OSD collars as cap badges is a trick many sellers use. As a regular ebay user who looks at Suffolk badges fairly regularly the amount of fake Suffolk badges is incredible. Suttle, Cambridge had two outfitters shops in Cambridge during the Great War and also had badges with their name on the slider which has been picked up by the fakers. Rob |

Those are indeed very dear prices for single collars. CB

As I advised earlier on your other thread, a rule of thumb until you get your eye in is to avoid any OR badges with a solid centre, those solid between turrets and ones with a solid fillet between the oak spray and crown.
Fakes with these attributes are found in BM, GM, WM and reversed metals so my advice applies to any KC Suffolk badge you see and isn’t limited to the examples attached. It’s also not uncommon to find them with fake maker marks too. From the pics you’ve attached another tip would be to beware of eBay sellers scotmint and naplesturtle, both are major repro sellers. |

Suffolk badges
Two Suffolk badges, the one on the left was made with the two turret castle and king's crown, these were issued up to and during the Great War.
The one on the right is a modern fake. Rob |

My local postperson brought me a few badges today, some came from another forum member, and several came from Cultman Collectables. I will take some pics of all these badges and post them on the infantry forum, tomorrow. I am, however, rather curious about one of the badges that came from Cultman. It has lugs and is described as an Edward VII Suffolk Capbadge, I don't think that I've seen this badge anywhere else.
