Default Somerset Volunteer Regiment Fattorini marked

Hi all,

Have been through TWGB's wonderful VTC albums and feeling brave I post my Fattorini marked Somerset Volunteer Regiment one - it has a bad imperfection or a solder blob above the wyvern. So it worries me.

Tapered slider and quite similar to TWGB's one from 1st album of K&K badges page 4 - KK 1677.

Over to the umpire, cheers Dean.

Nice badge.

But I think your mythical beastie has too many legs to be a Wyvern, Isn't it a Somerset Dragon?

Hi Rob,

K&K describes it as a Wessex Wyvern so I went with that - heraldric associations I should think, it is a nice badge but VTC is not for the feint hearted with repros thick on the ground, cheers Dean.

Hi Dean

I completely agree, I am looking for some local (Devon) VTC badges for my collection, but when they do show up they are usually very expensive and often of doubtfull quality.

Default Somerset Volunteer

Dean,

Lovely badge, and I have no doubts about it being genuine; everything looks right! Whilst the VTC arena is overflowing with restrikes and copies, it's only a dozen or two that proliferate, almost all of which are available on a large number of dealer sites. That is only the third Somerset I've seen, and I've never seen a copy!

That flaw must be solder rather than a die flaw? Slightly strange, but worrying from quality standpoint, not an originality one!

Best regards,
Tim

I'd be happy with that too, the shape of the slider and the mark look similar to what's on my Carnarvonshire Vol Reg VTC.

Somerset uses the dragon, the wyvern is for Wessex. Here is the back of mine with lug fixings.

Default Loops / Slider

Nice one, too, Lee! Picture beautifully illustrates another Fattorini trademark, the flat loops...

Still surprises me that there are many examples of a particular badge with a slider, and then the odd one or two with loops (such as this), and vice versa (Middlesex is a good example).

Best regards,
Tim
