Looks fine but it's a collar badge rather than a cap badge

This type of collar badge was presumably made in UK in WW1, never seen it associated with WW2. They are not uncommon.

Thousands of Diggers fought in France in WW1 (I thank them for that) . So, it is sometimes possible to find badges from this period.

Default Tiptaft Rising Sun Badge

Hi, can someone please have a quick look at this Tiptaft Rising Sun badge that's for sale. It's double marked & looks legit. Is this the going rate for one of these, these days?

G'day Bull

That's an original Tiptaft WW 1 Rising Sun. I personally am not keen on Tiptaft Rising Suns as they have far too many "Dags" on the rays of the sun and that there are other Rising Suns that are better made, but that's a personal thing, see many previous threads on this subject. Do a search on "Tiptaft" threads.

If you have to have a Tiptaft Rising Sun its a good example but as to the price, well Im not prepared to pay that much for one. I know that there are Tiptaft's on UK dealers lists at 100 pounds and more that aren't selling. So its really up to you as to how much you pay or how much you really want a Tiptaft Rising Sun. But its too rich for me.

Hope that this helps.

Regards

Phil.

hi Bull
its a legit badge as Phil says but i disagree with Phil in this is not a good example.
i would be wanting something in pristine condition for this price and this one isn't.
its over priced. in my opinion they top out around the $100-$120aust
here's a few of mine

Thanks for your thoughts on the badge guys. I did feel that the asking price was steep on this one. Thanks for confirming. Appreciate your insights.

Is anyone able to give me some detailed info in regards to the third pattern Rising Sun Badge? ie the different maker marks that are known, if it is known if certain maker marked badges are from a certain period, which ones are the rarest etc?

G'day Bull

What do you regard as the "3rd Pattern" Rising Sun badge. Just to be clear before I try to answer the question.

Regards

Phil.

Thanks for the link to that thread! I appreciate it. It's shed some light on the subject for me.

If anyone else has anything to add on the topic, please do!

As this is the only double-marked Tiptaft Rising Sun I can find online, I can only compare it to single marked one's. I have found that all the single marked badges have the "Tiptaft & Son - Birmingham" stamp reading to the right. And the double-marked badge has the "Tiptaft & Son - Birmingham" stamp reading to the left. Is this a fact about these badges or can they be found being stamped both ways?
