Royal Tank Regiment In Black - Anodised.
Hi Guys,
I have recieved photos of an genuine Royal Tank regiment in black. This item has not been 'painted up'. As such, it has been removed from the fantasy list in posting #1. Regards Chris |

Hi,i have seen a Hurstpierpoint school in various collections and as far as im aware its still in use today, also the Tayforth uni in silver exists.
The single colour badges that appear could be from bad manufacturing,i had in my collection an all silver Intelligence corp and an all silver RSDG.I think that they use a paint to prevent the coloured anodising adearring to the wrong part of the badge.Thats why on the one piece badge the front is 2 colour and the back is 1 colour only. Ive also thought of an addition to the list, but im not sure of the battalion number, the staffs battalion whose badge is just the Stafford knot. The only ones ive seen have been a very badly chromed version. Id love to know where the information came from that Mercers school ccf wore an anodised badge.I made enquiries about the school and ccf.It closed in 1953. Im going to talk to a few fellow anodised collectors and see what they can come up with about badges on the list or not on the list. Also noticed that Mill Hill school appears on the list twice. Thanks Mike,
Are you able to get some photos of Hurstpierpoint school and the Tayforth uni in silver? I really would like to build up a definitive list and photographic evidence would be indisputable but as always in these things, one has to retain a degree of flexibility. I've also not been happy with the Staffordshire battalion badge being a single Staffordshire knot - I'm going to check a few sources too and this may well be added to the fantasy list too. Mercer School finished in 1953 as you say so I too doubt if an anodised item ever existed. Yes, please get back to your fellow staybrite collectors and let me know any other items. Have tidied up the Mill Hill school duplicate - Thanks !!! Regards Chris Last edited by hagwalther; 23-04-08 at 11:12 PM. |

I have long sought out these elusive TA Staffs badge to no avail. I have all the other TA badges of the period (Dorset Territorials, Devonshire Territorials etc) but I have never seen that one. Neither have I ever met a collector who has seen one.
I do wonder whether the one in K&K is in fact chrome and this fallacy has been repeated by other authors? Alan |

Just to clarify 'Fantasy'.
This is where an item has been published in a book or other media as existing but no tangible record of it exists. i.e. no physical badge was actually manufactured in anodised aluminium material. An item such as a gold Parachute Regt item while never issued and is to all probability a factory mistake is not a fantasy item by the rule that it does actually exist. Hope this clarify things. Your C1B was sealed in aa on the 14th April 1959 as CB3004, pattern number 18043, with the title "QUEENS DRAGOON GUARDS".

Should all my C1 entries be known just as the "QUEENS DRAGOON GUARDS"? I will update the web page on your advice. Regards Chris |

They still call themselves 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards. But I am not sure if the '1st The' bit is part of the offical name as the abreviated title is QDG and their shoulder title is also QDG. Needs to be looked at before you change anything. I may also have the 3rd badge you need a picture of, will have a look.

If you go by Peter Taylor's book it only shows the one design of both cap and beret badge, which are the aa version of the brass badges. During the 1970's the design was changed and both badges became more plain and both had an aditional wheel. There is an old pattern cap badge with the additional wheel which was sold by the Royal Artillery Association shop, it has lugs on the back.
