What are people views please on when this unoffical trade badge was manufactured. I have a MMG in the same font which came from Canada but may or may not be of Canadian manufacture. Is this war-time or post war?

I have one similar medic one that was listed as Gurkha. What is the difference between them?

Gurkha examples would be post 1960 so 2/3 the size of this one. What does a WW2 Rifle Green Trade badge look like?

REME, My "Gurkha" medic patch in the same colors is 42 MM diameter in size. Does that help in identifying it any more accurately?

I believe the change happened around 1962 with the change from battledress to No2 dress. The badges were reduced in size. Some badges ceased to be produced others introduced.
I have an "LMG" badge of the larger size but its in capital letters .
Thats why i asked the size. Trying to ascertain the approx age.

This is an interesting question. The badge shown was never an official issue through Ordnance channels as the official badge carried the letters LG and not LMG.

Rifle regiments were authorised before WW2 -around 1924 - to wear full dress type badges and chevrons on Service dress although they were not an official issue for that uniform.

In October 1949 the Army Dress Committee discussed a suggestion that the Light Infantry Group of regiments be provided with an official supply of distinctive coloured badges and chevrons. In which case consideration should be given to public payment for full dress type badges worn by Rifle Regts on BD.

During the discussion the Committee received a list of the badges sold by the Greenjackets PRI which included this badge and others such as the winged wheel with DM above.

it seem likely that the badge shown could have been issued and worn anytime between and the early 1950s.

I di not record all the badges mentioned in the letter from the Greenjackets PRI listing all the badges they stock but listed a few examples;-

For KRRC this includes; Veh Mechanic badge, Dvr Mechanic badge, crossed bugles
For RB this includes crossed bugles, DR badge, Dvr Mechanic badge, miniature stripes (single)
For the RB it also includes two styles of rank badges described as
Sgts stripes, gold and Sgts stripes, greatcoat.

If you go to Kew its file WO32/13983 - Badges and chevrons KRRC, RB, RUR, Cameronians, a long file discussing the adoption of Ordnance supplied regimental style rank badges in place of regimental supply which has been customary.
