Hi All,
Just come back from a visit to the
Harris Museum in Preston where I got dragged around an exhibition charting the changes in garment design over the years (and fabrics) by my other half. One of the display cases caught my eye as it was entitled "
Preston Women at War". Amongst the exhibits were a few armbands and a badge, both of which were worn by women at the local railway station who provided a free buffet service to solders and sailors returning from the first world war, since yesterday I have looked a bit further into this and found more details
here.
It has nothing to do with my related collecting field, but as its something I knew nothing of, thought it would be worth sharing here - not sure if this was unique to Preston or not?
The display was poorly lit and I only had my phone, so apologies for the less than sparkling photograph quality.
Dave
