Hi all,

This has poor strike and stubs of E-W lugs (bad sign) and a clip addded to thread on to a belt or just been mucked about with. Deep coloured.

K&K 1374 North American squadron.

Thoughts appreciated and rest assured after reading other threads - we have rivers to toss badges in as well so will be ok you don't have to be gentle ! regards Dean.

I like it.... looks well used. You do see that kind of slider conversion on other badges and as it goes its very neat and well done by the looks.

Hi Dean, The badge looks OK to me aswell, not that I am an expert. The conversion looks well done so that it fits a slouch hat neatly.

Aside from the toning - very nice - the claw and twig detailing looks very good and it isn't this "sharp" or detailed (no pun intended... but it will suffice) on most of the copies I have seen. Nice badge, and has already been commented, has a good look about it. Even the lug "stumps" add to its authenticity. Nice one.

Many thanks for the opinions on this badge. Happy with the prognosis.

However, what I should have made more clear in my description and rear pic was that the clip is rectangular in shape and is braised top and bottom and only open at the sides hence my comment that it had been adapted to fit over a belt rather than a slider for a slouch hat. I will take a fresh pic of the rear at an angle.

Its sounds like it had a strap of leather behind it E/W..... unusual ....yes.... but they were an odd bunch It was obviously a specific fixing for something, the badge is spot on though.

Hi Dean,

As you know I collect badges to this unit and have spent time researching them. I'd like to start by saying I don't think it is quite right. The first thing that put me off was the loop stumps. I have only found correct examples having N-S loops (one loop on the bottom scroll and one loop on a the central leaf vein). Secondly the double-diamonds are too small and the right hand side one should be tight against the tail. The modification was definitely not made for the slouch hat.

However, in this hobby we are constantly surprised to find correct items that were once thought to be fakes. So, keep hold of it until you have seen a few more good examples.

On your travels... if you ever find an officer's gilt badge it should have two sets of blades top and bottom.

The cap badge and the collars.... you have the cap badge. You might find some gilt in the back of your badge ...... but I fear the heat generated to put the fixing in might have burnt it all off?
