Default Cheshire Regiment - unintentional purchase

Last week I bought on eBay an WW1 pattern Cheshire Regiment cap badge. One which I had been meaning to get for quite a while. With bank holiday and weekend etc, it didn't arrive until Tuesday. Only, when I opened the package, it contained the wrong type of badge. I was a bit downhearted, but contacted the vendor, who was absolutely fine about it, and apologised for his mistake, and the correct one is en-route. However, I felt sorry for the knackered looking example I had received, and after a bit of thought, made an offer, which was accepted.
So, hopefully in my next instalment on this thread, it will look a lot better with a nice new slider to replace the horrendous knocked up lugs and industrial blobs of solder following it's trip to Dave's badge hospital.

Here's the final result. Absolutely delighted with it. Looks as good as new.

Nice job, maybe Dave should stamp his sliders "Done by Dave" or "DbYD", just think of the discussions in years to come.

Yes, nice job there Dave.

I have a question though.

John you mention in your first post that this was a WW1 pattern. Do you have the dates of use for this one, as I thought this one was the pattern found used in the Great War. I wouldn't want to frame the wrong one.

cheers

Simon

Hi Simon,
I ordered the WW1 pattern one as you have shown, but got the one I got repaired by mistake. Not entirely sure of the dates worn.

Ah, I get it. Sorry. Just got me wondering. I did read I think that this pattern came in just at the end of WW1. Maybe someone can confirm.

Cheers

Simon.

Hello Simon, the faceted eight pointed star in silver, gilt and enamel was first introduced for officers in 1888 and withdrawn in 1890 and was reintroduced in 1923. From 1950 officers began to wear a half size version. The other ranks bimetal badge was worn from 1923 until 1952 when Staybrite started to be worn.

The Cheshire badge with a scroll was taken into us on 1st December 1900 and worn until 1923.

Thanks George, much appreciated. So can be seen with loops if they come by for sale, when used earlier.

Cheers

Simon.
