Default Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire & Wiltshire Regiment

Hi
Just a quick query
The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire & Wiltshire Regiment cap badge, is there 2 sizes, as i recall that the Gloucestershire regiment had two badges on large at the front and one small at the rear. When the regiments were merged did they still keep a small back badge at all

Many thanks

The large badge was the first issue and the size was reduced in the late 1990s. The gold back badge was worn on all headress.

The RGBW briefly retitled to RGBW LI and wore a Rifle Green bert and soon after merged with the Devon and Dorsets to form 1 Rifles.

The Rifles wear the backbadge on their No1 dress caps but not on the beret any more. The exception to this is former RGBW cadet units who do wear it on the beret. This new badges is the same size but in silver to match the Rifles cap badge.

I believe only the Gloucestershire ACF now wear the back badge on their berets.

Wiltshire were ordered to remove it by their Commandant about 12 months ago. The only personal wearing it at that time were a small number of adults who had retained the Brass pattern from the RGBW days.

Typical of a Commandant, I wonder if he new the true story on why they wore the back badge in the first place.

I can rember many years ago when one of the army cadet instructers got into the Gloustershire Reg, He was so proud of having to where a back badge. And now its gone to the history books.
