Four lead alloy buttons or pips? I have no idea
Hi members of the British & Commonwealth Badge Forum,
I was hoping someone here could help me identify these four objects I found metal detecting on my local bay here in Swansea, South Wales. I found these four lead alloy objects with what I believe is a Victorian Riflemen insignia stamped on the front, crown above, ribbon in middle and horn below. There are holes on either side of the objects and several above, below and through the protrusion on the back. Each one weighs between 21grams and 24grams. Quite heavy so wouldn't think they would have been used for buttons but I could be wrong. Rank pips perhaps? Being so crudely made and of lead would these have been made for a field promotion if they are pips? I have inserted pictures. Thank you for any help provided. Dave . Well, I have the 5 pictures but I’m none the wiser for seeing them! Certainly oddities. As you say, quite crudely made and cast all in one including the fixing lug.

I am usually pretty good at researching online but on this occasion I have come up with nothing. All I can think right now is that they are one off personal pieces. Thank you for your input Artynut. Hopefully others here will have some more information.
