Default 1st Gloucestershire [City of Bristol] Rifle Volunteer Corp

1st Gloucestershire [City of Bristol] Rifle Volunteer Corps became 1st [City of Bristol] Volunteer Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regt in 1883.

KK fig.1553 shows a similar officers helmet plate in blackened white metal with polished highlights.[1880 to 1903]

This badge [not shown in KK] being smaller and brass/gilding metal I would think is an o/r glengarry badge.

Any info would be interesting. Had not seen one before. [pawn shop find] 57mm x 46mm

Graham.

I think you are right. Daniel Brinson mentions a smaller OR's blackened brass glengarry badge with the arms of the Maltese Cross being 'pierced'. Non voided central motif.

He indicates worn from 1882/1883 to 1905. Presumably if 1882 would make it still a RV at that time. He also indicates that no example has been seen with a KC.

Cheers
Mark

If those dates are correct, that would mean the 3rd (City of Bristol) VB Gloucester Regiment badge was only worn for a few years and a rare item, hence the number of fakes doing the rounds..

Thanks for showing this badge Graham,

I have one of these that I had also imagined was a smaller non-voided version of KK 1553 for the glengarry.

They are a very attractive badge, cheers Dean.
