Default Royal Guernsey cap badge

Hi all,
As a newbie and one who is on a fake spotting learning curve, I wonder if a recent acquisition of mine is indeed a fake?
I would be grateful for any advice or comments.

David

Not a badge well covered on the forum. I think the original badge had a less proud border to the scroll. Yours looks blackened to the reverse which I would not think natural. Regards, Paul.

Thanks Paul, I got it in a job lot of 10 assorted badges, i'm hoping there are a couple of real ones amongst them! David.

I agree with Paul. Poor reverse detail, black reverse appears an attempt to artificially age the badge, modern looking slider. Definitely not one I’d have in my collection.

Here’s a real one.

Having researched this badge recently the key, or rather most obvious difference, is the hanging scroll tassels/ends.

Genuine ones have far finer and thinner tassels that hang lower whereas on the very prolific eBay fake (blue background pic) they are stumpier and hug the scroll more.
