Default Boss badge?

Hi all
Is this a boss badge? Fittings are missing from the back but it looks like it may have been two wire prongs.
If it is, what colour bass should it be on?
Thanks, cheers,
Alex

In my opinion it is neither a boss or helmet plate badge. The curvature and overall quality is not what I would expect see from a helmet plate badge, and I cant think of any boss badge mounting like this.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies. Yes, I agree the curvature is too much for an HPC but I have seen boss badges with 2 wire prongs for fastening, which this looks like it was before the wires were snipped off. Did any regiments wear a sphinx boss badge? I forgot to mention it came with a bunch of Rifle Brigade officer pips & buttons as well as one or two other things.
Cheers,
Alex

Yes, a small silver sphinx with "EGYPT" tablet was worn as a boss badge, I just can't remember who by (South Lancs as a CFSC badge?).
I've seen such a badge on a black boss offered for sale but have no idea of its age or provenance.

Edit - and while I've been messing around instead of finishing this post Peter's linked to a suggestion of South Lancs.
That's a nice CFSC.

I have no connection with the seller of this item I just think it is attractive and relevant to this thread:

Unless it’s a trial piece

A cap to The Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Volunteers)? As they weren't formed until 1958 presumably they would have worn the insignia of the Lancashire Brigade?
