Default Metropolitan Police- Headress Badge

Could any Forumite please advise me when the Metropolitan Police (London) adopted the small chrome King's Crown cap badge for the flat cap which eventually replaced the Helmet and plate ?

Helmet and plate are still worn by the Met, the smaller badge has been in since c1910.
