Gloucestershire Regiment badge???

Can anybody help with this badge I found amongst my late father's effects?
It says Gloucestershire Regiment and has the coat of arms of Gloucester but why no sphinx?
My guess is its more of a "supporters" badge but what are the forum members' thought?

Thanks Luke. Now when I look under a magnifying glass I can just make out where the break was.
