Default WW1 German painted item

Hello Everyone . We wanted to ID this item and thought perhaps a member
could help us out .
We're not on any other militaria forums on-line so we hope
that we're not out of line by posting here .
This feels like painted canvas . Measures 10 inches by 2.5
inches .
" Anstellwinkel" translates to Angle of Attack . And looks
like 1 degree .
Came with a collection of WW1 letters .
Thank You for any help .

Hello.
Possibly a section of aircraft fabric?

Kind regards, Malcolm

Looks shiny and doped from the front with a blue, green and drab geodetic pattern more evident from the back (similar to below), plus that writing.

So could it be aircraft canvas from a German plane?

Hello Malcolm and Luke . Yes, that's what we were starting to think this was ,
a piece of an aircraft fuselage .
And judging by its texture I would agree with you on that conclusion.
Thank You for your reply.
Robert.

Anstellwinkel 1 degree. It refers to the angle or attitude of some part of the wings or control surfaces. Very nice!

Thanks cbuehler . We obtained this in a group of WW1 letters from a
fellow who was in the CEF Engineers .
Folded in an envelope it was .
I would like to see if it's possible to find a book dealing
with German aircraft paint schemes and maybe look for
this particular pattern .

Hi

A very interesting item. Can I suggest that you send a photo to a specialist aviation magazine? Two spring to mind:

Flypast and The Aeroplane

These are both British publications and have a really excellent readership. What they don't know about aircraft just isn't worth knowing!

A pleasure! We know our badges, etc. They REALLY know their planes!

Try the RAF Museum at Cosford. They have been very helpful to me in the past. I think their enquiry address is:
askcollections@rafmuseum.org
