Default Share YOUR WWI Cloth Trade Patches

Greetings Gents,

I would like to start this thread in the hope that we can all learn from one another by sharing our examples of confirmed Great War cloth Trade or Qualification patches.

If you have any examples, let's see them here on this thread and also please show close-up images of the back and the weave styles. Not much research has been done on cloth trade patches specifically from this era. My hope is that in sharing examples that we are confident 'are' indeed from the Great War period, we can start to get a better understanding of those examples produced and worn during this period and importantly how they were constructed.

I will start it off with my own area of interest, that being Motor Cycle Despatch Riders. This is a rare examples where I have photographic evidence of it in use.

Very much looking forward to Your contributions and learning more about this topic.

Cheers,
Roy

These are 2 from one of my frames that I would date to WW1.

Very nice indeed,

Lovely quality on these pieces.

Any chance you have an image of the backs?

Cheerio,
Roy

Default Australian WW1?

Here is a scan of trade badges that MAY be WW1. I am especially doubtful about the white artillery badge and the coloured cockade, and have never been able to confirm any of the grenade varieties.
I can only assume that Australian troops were routinely issued with normal "off the shelf" British trade badges, but maybe not all.

The red bomb is Royal Marine Artillery. The blue certainly looks like a trench mortar badge

My badges are stuck down (in a safe way) in my frames so I would prefer not to peel them off but I can confirm that they have a similar backing to yours and at least one a thick brown sriff glue on the back probably of organic origin.

Attached is another badge I considered to be WW1 by both trade and construction.

Thanks for that mate, no problem.

That's another very nice example you have there, reminding me, what is the 'T' for?

Cheerio,
Roy

The unofficial T in wreath badge is seen on the arm of soldiers who normally also have a signalling qualification and is believed to be Telegraphist.

Interestingly I have 2 different scriped versions which do not appear to be of WW1 manufacture. Possibly WW2 so a little strange.

That pattern of your white Field Gun is post 1940, a similar pattern in brass was introduced in 1906.
