Hi Steve,
Lovely group mate. From what I can make out your 1944 pattern SAS wings have discoloured from the backing material giving it that brown 'sticky' look rather than a brown thread in manufacture. Thanks for sharing this nice group. Paul |

Hi Steve,
Stunning group thanks for sharing well done. I believe the brown backing is common to 1944 pattern wings you only discover this when removing the black hessian backing which is missing on this wing. The beret badge on the right side is more uncommon and have seen with other 2ndSAS. I think c 1945.See eg auction of MM of pte Ramos at DNW. https://www.dnw.co.uk/auction-archiv...&lot_id=263241 The left beret badge is lovely text book wartime example. Cheers JB Quote:

Apologies Steve, I enlarged the photo when I got home and the threads are indeed an unusual brown colour rather than a discoloration. Good to see JB's reply stating that this is a common feature.
Good collecting Paul |

Hi Steve,
On the back it is written taken in Rome after Operations.. Does it say Canuck? And in Piedmonte? There was an SAS operation Canuck in January 1945 in Alba/Turin. Cheers JB |

A truly superb groups, I like the beret badges and in particular, the worn wing, which is a nice thing to see, certainly not getting any easier to find.

Is anyone able to suggest a likely manufacturer for the wings in the original post in this thread?
