I have a bagful of them, mine came from TKS. Again, who wears it? The Aussies do wear a version, but I think the slider is longer than ‘standard’, I was told this is because they are worn on the ‘digger’ hat, again cant swear on it. T |

Nobody.
They are still in the system and will continue to be, as long as they are demanded by various units wishing to display a collection of badges in the Stores and other places. Marc

Aussie SASR cap badges have been fitted with pins for some years.
I am informed the Gaunt badge was once worn as was an unmarked version. |

Special Air Service current cap badges
I understand that the correlation between Pattern Numbers and NATO Stock Numbers (NSN) is far from a precise science but it is interesting that the anodised badge and the cloth embroidered badge carry consecutive NSNs but widely apart Pattern Numbers:
Anodised cap badge NSN 8455-99-973-9574 Cloth embroidered NSN 8455-99-973-9575 Anodised cap badge Pattern Number 19173 Cloth embroidered Pattern Number 13068 Indicating a much earlier (obviously) Pattern Number for the cloth embroidered badge (13068). (The Pattern Number for SAS cloth wings is 13123) Tim

‘my bad’. The Aussies have extra long pins, not a slider, I am officially ‘a senior’ now you know. |
