L26459 Corporal George Horn M.M., RHA and RFA
Hi Forum members,
My brother-in-law's grandfather was L26459 Corporal George Horn, 119 Hornby Road, Blackpool, who was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in WW1. He has his MM, BWM and VM but is wondering if his grandfather was also entitled to the 1914-15 Star. I haven't been able to find his Medal Card details and hope that someone can help. It seems his War Records have been lost. Thanks, Tinto |

Royal Field Artillery and then Royal Garrison Artillery.
There is a Military Medal card for him on the National Archives website under the name G.Horn and with the prefixed number L26459. Military Medal notification Edinburgh Gazette 19th September 1917, page 2020. It would have appeared in the London Gazette around the same date. September 1917 is a little early for a 3rd Battle of Ypres award to appear in The Gazette so possibly awarded for Arras (April 1917) or Messines (June 1917). Where did you find the London Gazette entry?

G'day - listed in Forces War Records, a non-too good resource but it does sometimes produce some useful info.
It refers simply to the LG so I didn't quote the reference as I would usually do. |

Thank you very much High Wood and Leigh,

A glance at WO372 and WO329 confirms the MM and BWM/AVM pair only, his service within 164 Brigade RFA is noted in the latter, his service papers are unlikely to remain extant, but, I always feel a careful look through WO363 and WO364 at every man with that particular name is worth doing, because of any potential indexing error, which you encounter on rare occasion.
