Hi
Gentlemen, as I do not have any Mazeas I'll use Gary and Walter's pic as a guide and the text and pics in the Regiment's 1973 Pictorial History, this is what I know, The badge on the right was used from the late 1890s to 1920-1 when the CO, LCol Markham, was pursuaded by Sgt Maj Doyle of the RCD that the existing badge was wrong. Something about the Coronet. The result was the one on the left. The buckle gives it away. Not liked by the Regt, it was not generally worn and the previous version was retained by most Hussars. In England in 1942, the Regt had made the one's on the left in Walter's pic. That did last into 1957. Of course that could be all wrong. Go Dragoon's. regards Darrell

VIII PLNBH badges; pre 1922; post 1922 patterns
Quote:
the pre 1922 pattern has a belt or garter inscribed "Princess Louise's N.B. Hussars" ; the reverse has a slider fastener; the badge is of yellow brass. The 1922 GO Pattern, I have two varieties; the badge has an annulus inscribed " Princess Louise's N.B. Hussars" in small script between the inner and outer rims of the annulus; the reverse of the badge has lug fasteners; manufacturer's logo is " Birks"; yellow brass composition . The third variety is also the 1922 G O pattern but has a large script within the annulus;the fonts tuch the inner and outer rims of the annulus; the manufacturer is "Lackie Toronto" , the fasteners are lugs; the badges is manufactured of yellow brass; the field of this badge is bolder and is a late issue. The 1922 pattern is referred to as the Militia Badge; the overseas contigent of the VIII th Hussars were rebadged after 1941, dropping "N.B." from the regimental designation. Hoping I have been of help; all the very best, Ron. |

Thanks for the summary Ron. So, when the unit was mobilized as the 4 Cdn Motorcycle Regiment, they wore the 1922 pattern. Did they get the C60 pattern badge in Canada or overseas? (Some conventional wisdom has it that the C60 badge was issued overeas.)
