Saw this on a dealers list (now sold). Where exactly was it worn, is it an officer's item?

It’s a 5th Dragoon Guards Ear Boss/Bridle Rosette, one of a pair, slipped on either side of the horses brow band, via a leather tab and brass stud to secure it.
Probably all ranks.
