The bottom line of my scan shows three examples of the Malta blue and yellow cross. Embroidered, printed and silk.

Who knows? But it's also worn on the left sleeve of the officer on the right, so in my opinion its likely to be a regimental flash. But what colour and which unit? It could be a simple form of formation or unit identification which pre-dated the intricate system of multi-coloured Maltese crosses? My Apr 43 RA Staff Officer's filofax lists HQRA, two RA Bde HQ and 10 RA, three RMA and one RA/RMA Regts on Malta (4 S/L Regt was designated RA/RMA). Mike

If you go by the Arm of Service Strip the flash is approximately one inch wide by one and a half inches high.
