I think you already know the answer to your question but in my opinion (and i'm no expert on helmet plates), I suspect that they are all copies. I have never seen anything other than fine pins rather than split pins used to secure elements of an officers helmet plate, the majority just don't show the quality or definition that I would expect to see in Victorian workmanship -sorry if that's bad news, others may have a different opinion.

I agree with paul, copies, but number three could be right, the fact that its been painted black is a good sign.

I say the quality on most of them is poor. IMHO

No 6 is 2nd Administrative Battalion Hertfordshire Rifle Volunteers. It Was also worn by Haileybury College Cadet Corps.

It is a much copied plate and common as such, but originals are very hard to come by. There is a very fine example on the grey helmet in Hertford Museum.

Somebody liked no..3. I listed it as a copy on eBay and it sold for £45 within 20 minutes.

It must have been real then.

If you had offered them on here it would have been nice after we all commented on them

The comments were all negative so I couldn't post copies here as per the new rules. If you want them they are on ebay under lampwick3.
