Default Unknown Regt on Maxim MG

Can someone identify this emblem painted on a captured Maxim MG08, there might be a CEF connection as it is in Canada. The large CAG also makes me think of the CEF connection, but I do not recognize it.

The list of Abbreviations and Library & Archives Canada for CEF related stuff lists 'CAG' as 'Canadian Artillery Group', which may mean '5th Canadian Divisional Artillery (Greene's Group)'. Not sure that's much help and laurel leaves, if that's what they are, are a bit odd for Canadian insignia. Ours tended to use maple leaves.

I would go with it being ACG as the A is the dominant letter.

Does that suggest any units, British or Canadian, to anyone? Nothing shows up in the list I mentioned above.

I can not recall any unit in the CEF that has those letters.
