Default 4th Border Regiment cap badge

Good evening gents

I’m looking to learn a bit more about the cap badge of 4th Border Cumberland & Westmorland White Metal type.
I’ve done a search on the forum but most information and pictures seem to relate to the 5th Border type
Can anyone give me any pointers on what to look out for? Or even if someone has a spare?

Regards
Geoff

This is the one I got from Geoff Newman a short while ago http://www.gnmilitaria.co.uk/viewphoto.php?x=0 . Very happy indeed with it, just a shame the very tip of the crown has been partially mistruck or clipped. Look for one like that and don’t think you’ll go far wrong.

Luke, here are some scans of my 4th badge, part of my TA collection that I have been selling, hopefully an original? Available for offer if you are interested.
Also included a 5th.

Thanks for the help so far.
So do these badges come with sliders and lugs?

I haven’t seen the one on eBay can you send me a link to it or post a picture? I’ve heard mixed things about the seller but my personal experience has been good. Let’s stick to the items and keep the politics out of it I guess!

Regards
Geoff

This badge with its modern slider and flat-faced front of the star detail is one I would personally sell at a much lower price as a likely repro.

Thank you Alan for that link, I’m no expert on these but yes that does have some warning signs doesn’t it! I will avoid that one.

What do you make of the other example mentioned above being sold? I’ve just found it and will attempt to post a picture below. It has a slider is this okay?

Regards
Geoff

My link went to a different badge. Sorted now.
They seem to be from different dies, and I prefer chairborne's, but obviously that doesn't mean it is a right one.

I would agree with Luke but not for me at £40. Too much of his stuff is fake

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-...53.m1438.l2669

I would not touch this one with a barge pole but I see several of his lots are bought by other dealers.

I’d say the buyer did well. They’re scarcer than the 5th which usually go on dealers lists for £45-55.

Indeed the only genuine 4th I can currently find on a dealer’s site is listed at £75 and appears to have a professionally replaced slider.

Agree re the 13th Hussars badge. Not one I’d buy.

The 5th has been faked a lot and the old fakes are now passed off as genuine: hence the ease to find a 5th bn badge compared to the 4th bn
